Our Community

For parents interested in parent workshops, groups or resources in our community the Council has gathered a list of community organizations that offer workshops, support groups and/or assistance for parents:

Westchester County Libraries
Almost all of the libraries in Westchester County have parenting workshops that include activities to do with children, literacy skills and age appropriate activities; please check the monthly calendar of your local library by going to their respective website.

The Guidance Center
Parents Place provides a safe, clean, convenient and affordable place for kids (up to 5 years old) and their parents/caregivers to play, learn and socialize. Professional staff who specialize in parenting and development issues specific to young children are also available to address questions and concerns.

Parent Child Together at Neighbors Link of Northern Westchester:
The program is designed for parents with children from birth to age 4. The focus is on positive parenting skills, early childhood development and school readiness.  In a group setting, parents are provided with facilitated peer-to-peer learning opportunities. Classes are structured and include circle time, reading and music and movement, during which children learn colors, shapes, letters, numbers, and pre-literacy concepts.

Child Abuse Prevention Center of New York
Seminars and workshops are designed for community organizations, businesses, schools or parent groups and can be held at community locations. Among the subjects covered are:

  • Effective discipline
  • Family communication
  • Bullies and bullying
  • Age-appropriate behaviors
  • Infant care, growth and development
  • Fostering independence in teens
  • Preventing sexual abuse
  • Managing stress in a 21st century family
  • Nurturing self-esteem
  • Middle school years

Family Services of Westchester
Family Strengthening Program. The Family Strengthening Program is a crisis intervention program that provides parents with the tools and skills needed to address their children’s behavior issues and mental health needs. Families learn constructive strategies to help children handle conflict and improve their coping skills. The program also aims to improve overall family communication and interaction and utilizes trauma focused therapeutic techniques and interventions.

Westchester Jewish Community Services
A variety of programs are available to help parents develop communication, discipline and coping skills to strengthen family systems and/or improve their children's academic and personal prospects for the future. Some programs are geared directly to parenting skills; others engage parents to support the work being done with youngsters or adolescents at risk.

EPIC (Every Person Influences Children)
Ready, Set, Parent is a research-based parent education program developed to make parenting a positive experience and prepare children for school success by targeting three key areas: parenting skills, health and wellness, and literacy/language development.
