Administering medication and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
Due to the number of children in child care programs with asthma that may need the administration of an inhaler or children with severe allergies that may need the administration of an Epi-Pen, many programs have taken the steps to become approved to administer medication in their programs.
Child care programs that have chosen not to administer medications in their programs, must still comply with the ADA. There may be circumstances where compliance with the ADA may require a child care program to administer medications to a child with a disability. The child may be enrolled in the program or beginning the enrollment process . Under those circumstances, the program must become certified to administer medications in accordance with OCFS regulations.
