Future Leader Child Care Scholarships and
LIKE Awards Make a Difference

About the Future Leader Child Care Scholarships

The Future Leader Awards for Child Care Scholarships from the Sally Ziegler Fund are $2000 scholarships for qualifying parents to help pay for full time child and after school care. In 2013, we have awarded scholarships to 9 families and children. At the present time, we have 8 eligible families on the ‘wait list’, families that we would like to assist if we had more funds.

With the cost of full-time child care for a 4 year old averaging $14,000 and more, regulated child care is beyond the reach of many Westchester families.
To donate to the Future Leader Awards for Child Care Scholarships and help more families find quality child care, please contact Kathy Halas at kathyh@cccwny.org.

About the LIKE Awards

The Lanza Investment in Kid’s Early Education (LIKE) Awards, currently in the second year of funding, is a Child Care Council scholarship program made possible by Patricia Lanza and The Lanza Family Foundation.  The program is for families who live in Westchester, are employed full-time, and meet income and family size requirements. Children are required to be enrolled full-time (at least 30 hours per week) in a child care center or family child care program that serves infants, toddlers, or preschoolers which is located in Westchester County and is regulated by the Office of Children and Family Services. In addition, if the center or program is not nationally accredited, it must participate in a Council quality enhancement program, if it has not already done so. The Council currently provides LIKE scholarships to 33 families with 37 children.

“With the suspension of Westchester County’s child care scholarship program and the sluggish economy, these scholarship programs are crucial for working families,” says Kathy Halas, Executive Director of the Council. “They keep families on the job and their children in licensed, quality programs.”
