Keynote Speaker Cindy Rzasa Bess, PHD. is a Developmental Psychologist and a recognized professional speaker and educator. She has extensive expertise in early childhood development and education. She recently published a book on early childhood education “The View From the Little Chair in the Corner.”

Join us for a half day of training focused on language development in infants and toddlers.  Highlights include a workshop for Group/Family Child Care Providers and a workshop for Spanish-speaking providers and teachers.

MORNING WORKSHOPS:
Workshop A - Guiding the Social/Emotional Development of Infants and Toddlers

Presenter: Cindy Rzasa Bess, PhD
This workshop will look at how our time and attention benefits young children. We will discuss the social and emotional development of infants and toddlers and techniques to enhance their development.

Workshop B - For Family Child Care Providers- Early Literacy - It’s Not All About Reading
Presenter: Maureen Barbelet, MA
Early Childhood Consultant
This workshop will present exciting ideas to promote a love for reading, use of vocabulary and talking to mixed age groups of young children.

Workshop C - Communication - It’s More Than Talk
Presenter: Mary Lou Sgro, MA, Westchester Community College, Early Childhood Education Faculty
Infants and toddlers are learning that words have meaning. Adults can support language and literacy by interpreting non-verbal cues, using words, gestures, and print. This hands-on session will engage participants in activities that promote communication.

Workshop D - Nuevas Palabritas: El Idioma del Hogar y la Preparación para la Escuela para los Niños Bilingües Pequeños
Presenter: Zoila Tazi, PhD, Department of Childhood Education, Mercy College
¿Qué pueden hacer los profesionales que trabajan con nińos pequeńos para ayudar a preparalos para la escuela si no hablan inglés en casa? ¿Qué consejo le damos a los padres de famailia?
